    20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

Description And Comments

It's difficult to write a proper description for 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea at Tokyo DisneySea. It's so unique, that to describe it in detail would be spoiling one of the best parts about the ride: figuring out how it all works. With that being said, we'll try our best to describe the experience without spoilers.

Groups of six people ride in enclosed submarine vehicles, that appear to plunge deep in to the ocean. And when we say enclosed, we mean it. Each submarine is about the size of a walk-in closet. Three portholes (one facing front, one to the left, and the other to the right) allow you to view the sunken cities that you traverse through, and sea life that you'll encounter along the way. There's no projections or video screens here, you're traveling through actual physical sets. The illusion of navigating through the water is a marvelous effect, and must be seen to be believed. We love this ride. It's one of those attractions you can ride 10 times in a row and see new things each time.

The ride is loosely based off of Disney's 1954 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea film, but it has its own unique storyline.

Touring Tips

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea only offers FastPass on days where the park has high crowds. On days where the park isn't busy, ride it anytime the posted wait is below 30 minutes. Check back near the end of the night and you should be able to experience with minimal wait.

How's It Different From the Walt Disney World and Disneyland Versions?

Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom had an attraction of the same name that operated 1971 to 1994. It shares the same theme, but other than that it is an entirely unique attraction.

Is it English Friendly?

Narration is in Japanese but that should have no affect on anyone's enjoyment of the ride.

Note: We embedded a video ridethrough below but it does not do this attraction justice. We recommend riding without spoiling it for yourself.
