Tokyo Disneyland, Familiar Yet Different
Built in 1983, Tokyo Disneyland is the first Disney theme park to open outside of the United States. Tokyo Disneyland, along with its neighbor Tokyo DisneySea and the rest of Tokyo Disney Resort's hotels, shops, and so on, are owned and operated by Oriental Land Company. But fear not, Tokyo Disneyland is just as high quality, spectacular, and dare we say it... magical, as the other Disney theme parks, even though it isn't actually owned by Disney itself. Both companies refer to it as a partnership. Disney has final approval of the use of its characters, but OLC decides what they want built, and how the resort is managed. Disney gets a cut of merchandise sales and ticket sales; OLC gets what is rumored to be the most profitable Disney theme park on the planet. We like the way Tokyo Disneyland's opening day dedication speech phrased it: "And may this magical kingdom be an enduring symbol of the spirit of cooperation and friendship between the great nations of Japan and the United States of America."
Tokyo Disneyland has many of the rides that you know and love from the original Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Classic rides, such as Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, and more can all be found at Tokyo Disneyland. The park is also home to must-see exclusive rides, including Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast, Pooh's Hunny Hunt, and Monsters, Inc. Ride & Go Seek! There's also an incredible parade, Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade Dreamlights, along with large amounts of unique seasonal entertainment throughout the year.
