Summary

O'Gills is an Irish bar in the same way that Lucky Charms is an “Irish breakfast”, which is to say not very. Sure, there's a clover pattern woven into the new green carpet, and background music that features a lot of fiddle and flute and U2. Nine wall-mounted televisions provide live satellite coverage of whatever sports are being played around the world.

Still, O'Gills is a comfortable place to grab a drink and watch TV. Comfortable burgundy leather banquettes are built into the wall, and padded leather armchairs surround the tables set within the banquettes. About a dozen bar-height tables and stools are set in the middle of the room and provide the best views of the most televisions.

The bar menu includes a beer flight of five ounce Irish brews. There’s also a selection of Irish whiskeys and cocktails using Irish whiskeys, as well as standard beers, wines, and a full bar. Beers are about around $6, wines by the glass run about $7-10, and cocktails are $6-11 depending on the amount of booze and the level of fancy. We like to have an Irish coffee here after dinner here when we’re sailing in Northern Europe.

There are often substantial snacks like chips, crudites, small sandwiches, or pigs in a blanket available in the evening -- enough to make a light dinner. There are also more substantial items available for a fee, bangers and mash, for example, but we found that ordering these could take up to an hour. Stick with the freebie snacks if you’re hungry right now.

Comparing the Ships

O'Gill's on the Magic joins the Fantasy's bar of the same name. Along with the Dream's 687 , these are the fleet's upscale sports bars. The Magic's O'Gills addition of bigger televisions make it easier to watch events from across the room. The open seating at Diversions on the Wonder means you’re more likely to interact with other guests, whereas you can keep to yourself easier at 687 and both O’Gills.
